From Drab to Beautiful – History of Nursing Scrubs

It wasn’t long ago, there were explicitly two color varieties obtainable for medical scrubs uniforms. Just blue and pale green. Nursing uniforms in alternate colours were never found and not heard of. Noting current available options for colors in nursing garments, times have finally changed!

Around the late 1980’s, other color choices were offered and became more accepted in the Operating Departments of the more forward thinking hospitals, in many clinics and in physicians’ offices across America. That acceptance led to a burst of color and choices in medical garments in widespread realms of medicine.  Nurses, dentists and veteranarians happily made their wishes known to overthrow the plain old blue and green medical scrubs garments and added fresh color and new options in their stead. The new wave of uniform colors quickly polevaulted the seas to spread throughout the globe.

Today, medical scrubs choices are frequent in colorful prints to allow versatility and personalization never before offered to medical professionals and are accepted in several other industries as well. Dental Hygienists and Vet Techs and are now wearing the uniforms of the medical professionals, due to the comfort given by the garments themselves.  Also certainly seen as a powerful factor in the expansion of these fresh and colorful garments, is the nearly instantaneous personal connection which is grown between physicians and patient, or nurse and patients through the use of color and print.  It is indeed that individual connection that all health care professionals seek to develop with those for whom they offer care and service.

With an eye toward fashion, medical professionals can now pick out their medical scrubs from the “in” colors for each season. Maintaining individual professionalism, while exuding comfort and fashion, is now an easily attainable goal. Fashion, color and comfort now mingle in hospital scrubs uniforms manufactured for today’s health care professionals, and bring about that easy connection with patients and staff. It is very apparent that, yes, times have absolutely changed.  And where color and uniforms are considered, definitely for the better.
